My Story

I grew up in the mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania, where towering trees, quiet valleys, and a low-income upbringing taught me resilience. My Czech mother's and Scottish granny's songs and stories sparked my love for language, while my own experiences revealed how society molds opportunity and identity- for better or worse.

These influences drive my writing, which explores human complexities in all their pain and glory. Today, as an MFA student and instructor at Stony Brook University, I continue to trace these stories in my prose and attempt to instill a deep love of exploration in my students.

There is no truth without bravery.
